Your normal 20-something living in Chicago. Living for highs over 35.

Unnaturally obsessed with food, television, pop culture and all knowledge that comes from Netflix.

So I accidentally broke my phone over the weekend and have been without cell phone access for the past 4 days.  For those who know me this is not the first time this has happened but I must say this was the best time.

For the past 4 days I was forced to pay attention to the dozens of people I see on my commute, observe the world around me and be alone with my thoughts.  And for the first time in a long time I didn’t hate it.  It’s really hard for most of us to imagine but I highly recommend giving it a try. If not for a few days at least for a Sunday afternoon.

And this did allow me some unadulterated time to catch up on watch the entire first season of Scandal - the suprise hit of September 2013 for me.

You know what’s a great feeling? Being prepared. Take the last 25 minutes of Friday getting organized for the week ahead.

Two ideas:

  1. Set an objective for Monday (as what you need to get done will still be fresh in your mind).
  2. Leave a treat for yourself on your desk—it’ll be the best start to a Monday you’ve had in a long time.

10 quick productivity hacks to make life at work better

I do this every Friday and let me tell you - it makes for the most amazingly productive Mondays!

The Scarcest Resource You Don't Even Know You're Spending

When we talk about investing we’re usually discussing time energy or money. But there’s a resource scarcer even than those—your attention.

We have all hurt someone tremendously, whether by intent or accident. We have all loved someone tremendously, whether by intent or accident. It is an intrinsic human trait, and a deep responsibility, I think, to be an organ and a blade. But, learning to forgive ourselves and others because we have not chosen wisely is what makes us most human. We make horrible mistakes. It’s how we learn. We breathe love. It’s how we learn. And it is inevitable.

Some days you just need to be reminded of how ridiculous your friends are and remember there are still people who don’t take life seriously at all. Well at least Fri-Sun.

Try everything. Be curious, ask questions. Let yourself be pulled in weird and interesting directions. Let your friends drag you to that thing you’re not so sure about. Go to a real bookstore. Sign up for an art class, a cycling class, an improv class. Bring a friend. When your friend bails, show up to class anyway.
